Since I don’t cover Tuesday events, I wanted to give a special shoutout to Hillsboro’s Art Walk. This event is celebrating its 20th anniversary this Tuesday, September 1st! Every month, the art walk is supported by the Hillsboro’s Cultural Arts District and local nonprofit, Influence Music Hall with the goal of connecting the community through art. From 5pm-8pm, head to Main Street to enjoy live music, performances, art, and more! Find out more HERE. Happy Birthday, Hillsboro Art Walk! 🎉

Wednesday, September 2

• Public Works Calendar Cover Photo Contest ✅
  submit through Sep 10
  Have a great photo of Tigard? Submit a high-resolution image showcasing the best of the city for a chance to be featured on the cover of the Public Works 2027 Calendar. After submissions close, the community will vote for their favorite on social media. Photos with identifiable people must include written consent from everyone pictured.
• Let’s Talk Aging: Healthy Aging ✅
  10:30am-12pm, Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center, Sherwood
  Explore the Four Pillars of Healthy Aging: exercise, healthy diet, an active mind, and a positive attitude. This Let’s Talk session invites people over 60 to discuss practical ways to incorporate these pillars into daily life while connecting with others and exploring new resources and possibilities.
• Drop-in Art at West Slope: Tissue Paper Watercolors ✅
  3pm-5pm, West Slope Community Library, Portland
  Drop in to West Slope Community Library to browse for new books and make art. This month, you’ll use bleeding tissue paper to create vibrant watercolor art. Materials and cleanup are provided, and you can come and go as you please. No registration required.
• Third Place – Games and Dinner Meetup ✅
  6pm-8pm, 937 NE Jackson School Rd, Hillsboro
  Gather on the first and third Wednesdays of each month for food, games, and conversation in a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of faith background. Come share a meal, have some fun, and spend time in community.
• Tough Guy Book Club ✅
  7pm-10pm, Binary Brewing, Beaverton
  Join the Beaverton chapter of Tough Guy Book Club for a casual, no-pressure book discussion. Read a few pages if you can, bring your copy if you have one, or just show up and join the conversation. The group will also announce next month’s book and hand out preordered copies.

Thursday, September 3

• Murray Scholls Book Group ✅
  10:15am-11:30am, Murray Scholls Library, Beaverton
  Whether it’s fiction, nonfiction, a bestseller, or something more obscure, this friendly book group reads it all. Upcoming selections are How to Read a Book by Monica Wood on September 3 and James by Percival Everett on October 1.
• Heart Strings Mandarin Music and Movement ✅
  10:30am-11am, Sherwood Public Library, Sherwood
  Sing, move, play instruments, and hear stories in Mandarin, English, and American Sign Language with Sharon Gan of Heart Strings Mandarin. Children and parents of all Mandarin levels are welcome, from complete beginners to native speakers. Enter from the parking lot side, as the library opens at 11am.
• Tween & Teen Crafternoon ✅
  3:15pm-4:30pm, Banks Public library, Banks
  Middle schoolers and high schoolers come to the library to make crafts!
• Party Card Games ✅
  5pm-6pm, Shute Park Library, Hillsboro
  Learn how to play fun group games using nothing more than a standard deck of cards, including Crazy Eights, Egyptian Ratscrew, and Spoons.
• Joseph Konty – Downtown Sounds ✅
  6pm-8pm, 1st Street Dining Commons, Beaverton
  Head to the 1st Street Dining Commons for an evening of live music with Joseph Konty. Grab a seat, meet up with friends, and take in the sounds of summer in the heart of downtown Beaverton.
• Adult Book Discussion ✅
  7pm-8pm, Tualatin Public Library, Tualatin
  Join this informal monthly book group for a lively discussion. September’s selection is Infinite Country by Patricia Engel. The group chooses each month’s book at the previous meeting.
• Medieval Dance Class ✅
  7pm-9pm, Cornelius Public Library, Cornelius
  Step back in time with a Medieval Dance Class where you’ll learn authentic dances from the period while exploring the rhythms and culture of the past. No experience is needed, just bring your enthusiasm. This program is open to teens and adults.
• Bag&Baggage Present Barefoot in the Park
  7:30pm and various times through Sep 20, The Vault Theater, Hillsboro
  Newlyweds Corie and Paul Bratter are about to discover that marriage can be wonderfully, disastrously hilarious in Neil Simon’s classic comedy Barefoot in the Park. Set in a fifth-floor New York City walk-up, the play explores love, compromise, and the chaos of realizing you might not be quite as compatible as you thought. Fast, funny, and joyful, it’s B&B’s first production of a Neil Simon play.
