Summer reading season is almost here, which means it’s another good time to plug our awesome libraries! Checking out books from the library is one of the easiest ways to support their work, and it saves you a few bucks you can use for ice cream at the Salt and Straw that just opened in Bridgeport.
If you need a recommendation, I checked out To the Gorge from the library last summer and I absolutely loved it. It’s Emily Halnon’s memoir about running the 460 miles of the PCT in just 7 days, 19 hours, and 23 minutes. Do you have any summer reading recommendations? Enjoy the US Air Force Band of the Golden West – Travis Brass performing funk, jazz, pop, and second-line music. Brass quintet aims to honor service members and connect with the community. Fun run for kids 5-15 featuring mixed themes including color, foam, mud, obstacles, and zombies. All participants receive race number, sunglasses, and bandana. Participants should wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty. - Beaverton Neighborhood Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event ✅

Free Metro household hazardous waste collection event for safe disposal of paint, batteries, pesticides, cleaners, propane, automotive products, medical sharps, and other common household items that shouldn’t go in regular garbage. 1pm-4pm, Beaverton City Library, Beaverton
Free community repair event where volunteers help fix clothing, jewelry, home décor, small furniture, bicycles, electronics, toys, tools, and other portable items. Participants can bring up to two clean items per event and stay with volunteers to learn repair processes. Registration encouraged. Items must be easily carried, clean, and safe – no gas-powered, hazardous, or weapon items accepted. Check the website for further guidelines. - Queer Writers Community ✅
1:30-4pm, Westside Queer Resource Center, Hillsboro
Monthly queer writers’ meetup on second Sundays for aspiring authors, fanfiction writers, and storytellers of all kinds. Space for working on existing projects or finding inspiration while composing, collaborating, and sharing work with community members.
